As a brittle mineral with a Mohs hardness of only 3–4, fluorite places relatively low demands on equipment wear resistance during grinding but requires high standards for grinding efficiency, rotational speed stability, and product particle size uniformity. When planning a fluorite grinding production line with an hourly output of 5 tons, selecting the right equipment is crucial for ensuring both production capacity and economic returns.
For a processing capacity of approximately 5 tons per hour, ball mills with shell dimensions of Φ1200×4500 or Φ1500×3000 are recommended. The Φ1200×4500 model features a longer shell, allowing for extended grinding time—making it ideal for applications requiring fine fluorite powder. Conversely, the Φ1500×3000 model offers a larger shell diameter and greater internal processing volume, making it suitable for operations prioritizing stable output. Both models typically handle feed sizes of up to 25 mm and allow for precise adjustment of discharge particle sizes between 0.074 mm and 0.4 mm (approximately 40 to 200 mesh), fully meeting the mainstream requirements of fluorite beneficiation and chemical powder production.
Regarding power requirements, the Φ1200×4500 model is best paired with a 55 kW motor, while the Φ1500×3000 model is suited for a 75 kW motor. Given the fluidity of fluorite slurry, the discharge method is a key selection factor; if the process connects to a subsequent flotation stage, a wet overflow ball mill is the superior choice, as it yields finer particles and minimizes over-grinding. Additionally, it is advisable to build in a 10% to 20% capacity margin during procurement to accommodate production fluctuations. By carefully considering factors such as equipment weight, motor energy consumption, and liner material—and selecting a model with an optimal length-to-diameter ratio and smooth transmission—operators can achieve low-energy, high-efficiency fluorite processing.
