How to classify ball mills

The ball mill is an indispensable grinding equipment in the mineral processing process. The separation of any mineral is inseparable from grinding, so the role of the ball mill in the production line is self-evident. Currently, there are many manufacturers of ball mills on the market, and the types of equipment produced are very different. So faced with so many ball mills, how should we choose? Here we introduce to you six different classification methods of ball mills, as well as the scope of application of various ball mills. , to facilitate your selection.

How to classify ball mills

Classification according to the shape of the cylinder (according to the ratio of length to diameter)

1. Short-cylinder ball mill: The ball mill whose cylinder length L is less than 2 times the cylinder diameter D, that is, L≤2D, is a short-cylinder ball mill. It is usually a single-chamber structure and is mainly used for rough grinding operations or primary grinding operations. The operating efficiency is high, and 2-3 ball mills can be used in series at the same time, which has a wide range of use.

2. Medium-length ball mill: When the barrel length L=3D, it is a medium-length ball mill.

3. Long barrel ball mill: When the barrel length L ≥ 4D, it is a long ball mill. It is generally divided into 2-4 warehouses.

How to classify ball mills

Classification according to the shape of the grinding media loaded into the mill

1. The grinding media installed in the steel ball ball mill are mainly steel segments or steel balls. This type of mill has a strong grinding force, a light structure, and a stable rotation speed.

2. The rod mill is mainly used for grinding steel rod media. The diameter of the steel rod is mostly between 50-100mm, and the grinding time is long. The number of chambers of a rod mill generally ranges from two to four, and there are certain differences in the grinding media loaded into each chamber. In order to ensure the grinding effect, the staff will place the cylindrical steel rod in one warehouse, and place the steel balls or steel segments in several other warehouses.

3. The grinding media in the gravel mill mainly include pebbles, gravel, sand, porcelain balls, etc. Gravel mills mostly use porcelain or granite as lining plates, and are widely used in the production of colored cement, white cement, ceramics and other fields.

How to classify ball mills

Classification by unloading method

1. Tail discharge mill: The tail discharge mill uses its head and tail as the inlet and outlet of the abrasive. When the mill is working, the staff feeds the abrasive from the inlet end and discharges it from the other end.

2. Mid-discharge mill: The inlet of the mid-discharge mill is at both ends, and the outlet is in the middle of the mill. Workers usually feed the abrasive from both ends and discharge it from the middle of the cylinder.

Classification by ore discharge method

1. Overflow type: discharge the ore through the hollow shaft.

2. Grid type: The ore is discharged through the grid plate.

3. Peripheral type: ore is discharged through the periphery of the cylinder.

Classification by transmission mode

1. Center drive ball mill: The transmission power end of this type of mill is in the center of the body, and the motor realizes the operation of the ball mill through the reducer. During operation, the hollow shaft in the center of the ball mill drives the grinding body to rotate driven by the power system.

2. Edge drive ball mill: The motor drives the gear on the edge of the cylinder through the reducer to drive the motion of the cylinder.

Classification according to job characteristics

1. Wet mill: Add water while feeding, and discharge the material into a slurry of a certain concentration. It forms a closed-circuit operation with hydraulic classification equipment in a closed-circuit system.

2. Dry mill: Some of the discharge materials are extracted by air flow, and the mill and the wind classification device form a closed circuit. For example, cement mills use self-flow discharge.
